Overview
Naija AI Tutor is an interactive learning platform built to help Nigerian students prepare effectively for WAEC, JAMB, and NECO examinations. The platform leverages artificial intelligence to provide step-by-step explanations, adaptive question sessions, and personalized feedback making learning engaging, efficient, and accessible to every student.
The project aims to bridge the gap between traditional study methods and modern learning technologies by integrating AI-driven tutoring, bilingual support (English and Nigerian Pidgin), and realistic CBT exam simulations. Through personalized guidance, adaptive learning, and an intuitive user experience.
Many Nigerian students preparing for WAEC, JAMB, and NECO face significant challenges when it comes to exam preparation. The traditional learning methods such as crowded classrooms, outdated study materials, often leave students underprepared and anxious.
Additionally, students also struggle with time management during exams, as most times they practice exams in the classroom with Paper and pen which does not simulate the real CBT (Computer-Based Test) environment used in national exams. This gap between preparation and real exam conditions reduces students’ confidence and performance.
Naija AI Tutor was developed to address these problems by providing a free, AI-powered, exam-focused, and culturally tailored platform that makes learning interactive, relatable, and accessible to every Nigerian student.
Before developing Naija AI Tutor, a series of research were conducted to understand how Nigerian students prepare for WAEC, JAMB, and NECO exams, as well as the key challenges they face been through the process a long time ago but still had to be sure if same process was still applied. So the goal was to identify why many students struggle during the actual exam despite studying extensively.
Many students revealed that their first real experience with a Computer-Based Test (CBT) happens during the official JAMB or WAEC exams. Without prior exposure to a simulated exam environment, they experience anxiety, confusion, and poor time management. This insight showed the need for a realistic CBT simulator to help students practice under timed conditions.
A majority of respondents admitted they often run out of time before completing all questions. Traditional paper-based past questions do not prepare them for the strict timing of CBT exams. Students needed a countdown-based system that mirrors the standard duration and pacing of real exam sessions.
People struggle to find serious or compatible matches, as current algorithms focus more on surface-level preferences than deeper behavioral or personality alignment.
The Strategy & Ideation
Based on the research findings about students’ struggles with CBT-style exams, the development strategy for Naija AI Tutor was centered on creating a realistic, supportive, and adaptive exam experience powered by AI.
The ideation phase focused on answering a single question How can we help Nigerian students practice, learn, and feel confident under real exam conditions anytime, anywhere?”
To bridge the gap between practice and real exam conditions, Naija AI Tutor was designed with a realistic exam simulation with countdown-based CBT environment that mirrors actual WAEC, JAMB, and NECO time limits
Instead of simply showing correct or wrong answers, the system integrates an AI tutor engine that breaks down each question step-by-step.
During testing sessions, it became clear that Nigerian students are more motivated when learning feels rewarding and interactive.
The long-term strategy includes tracking students’ performance trends to offer personalized study recommendations.
Design Execution
The final output reimagines language learning by blending AI intelligence, human warmth, and emotional design. creating an experience that feels both purposeful and delightful. Every decision was made to help users feel motivated, confident, and connected throughout their learning journey.
